What is Hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing is an antenatal birth education course, it is to empower you to trust your body and to make informed choices that are right for you and your baby.

Hypnobirthing includes a form of self hypnosis, the aim is to condition your mind to believe that birth is positive and not to be feared, it provides a range of techniques to stay calm and in control of your birth.

What does your Hypnobirthing course cover?

  • Birth education – understanding the basic physiology of birth
  • How birth can be a wonderful experience
  • Understand how the mind, nervous system and muscles work together in birth
  • How fear has a negative impact on birth and how to avoid the “fear, tension, and pain syndrome”.
  • Relaxation, breathing and visualisation techniques
  • Guided relaxation mp3s.
  • How to promote your birthing hormones
  • How to trust your body to birth your baby
  • The role of the birth partner/s
  • Birth Plans – how to be informed and in control of your birth
  • Birth Positions
  • How to navigate birth if you require medical intervention.
  • and lots more

Do I still need a midwife if I do Hypnobirthing?

Absolutely, Hypnobirthing is additional to medical care!

Is Hypnobirthing just for the birthing person?

Nope, it’s for the birth partner/s too. It gives them an active role in the birth and empowers them to be an advocate for the birthing person.

If I do Hypnobirthing will I have a pain free birth?

It doesn’t guarantee a pain free birth, nothing does (sorry). Pain is very subjective, everyone experiences it differently. For me personally, it’s very intense, lots of pressure, it’s bloody hard work, exhausting but so powerful. In the courses I teach, I’ll give you techniques on how to cope with the surges and how to work with your body to have a safe, calm and comfortable birth. I want you to look forward to birth, you are going to meet your baby!

Can you get stuck in hypnosis?

No, the type of hypnosis in my courses is guided relaxations, the aim of the game is to be deeply relaxed. If someone spoke to you or if the door bell rang then you would instantly snap out of your relaxed state. unless you have fallen asleep 😉

What are hypnobirthing techniques?

I can’t give all my secrets away, then you won’t do my courses 😉

Hypnobirthing is hippy B*%$£*

It’s actually science based. I teach about the birthing muscles, how the mind and nervous systems impact birth and how to promote your birthing hormones. That doesn’t sound very hippy right?

What makes your course different to other Hypnobirthing courses?

I teach the Little Birth Company hypnobirthing courses, which are bloody fantastic. But what makes my courses different is ME, my personality, experiences and local knowledge.

Am I your type of person?, do you like me? You can read my blog post “Who is Jodie @ The Maternio” or follow me on instrgam @TheMaternio

Do I have to listen to the Hypnobirthing tracks in labour?

If you want to, I would recommend making a few different playlists of: Hypnobirthing tracks, favourites songs, relaxing tracks and even party tunes.

Is Hypnobirthing for home births only?

Nope, Hypnobirthing is for all types of births.

What are the disadvantages of hypnobirthing?

It doesn’t guarantee a pain free birth or a birth free from complications.

Does hypnobirthing prevent caesearan sections?

No it doesn’t, it does help you stay calm and confident to make informed decisions if you require an unplanned caesarean section.

You are “less likely” to need a caesarean section if you plan to birth at home or in a birth centre, or if you have a doula or independent midwife.
