I have recently completed a LGBT+ competency workshop, run by the awesome AJ Silver from The Queer Birth Club, wow what a fanastic course. I was speechless hearing about the consequences of the not being inclusive regarding the birth of babies and understanding that not only women birth and chest/breastfeed babies. Go check out AJ, they are super lovely and make you feel comfortable and safe when asking any questions, they say no question is silly or stupid. Not only does AJ offer this awesome course for birth workers, but they are a birth and postnatal doula, a probational breastfeeding counsellor with ABM and is a baby wearing consultant, so a bloody super human.

The course completely opened my eyes, I thought I was opened minded and I could support all types of families, but I seriously need to be conscious of my language, don’t make assumptions, do more research and actively talk about it, being quiet is just not good enough.
I’m not saying, look at me I’ve done a LGBT+ course, I’ve done my bit, ticked a box and now I deserve a cookie, and now I’m going to splash rainbows all over my website.
I’m saying I want to support all types of families, I want to tailor my courses to your family and what your family needs. I’m not perfect, I do fuck up, but I want to be a better person and want to be inclusive of everyone, as LGBT+ families may face barriers that cis hetero families don’t experience, and I want to help and support you on your journey to birth and parenthood.
